Basic Policy on the Protection of Personal Information


The Sumitomo Foundation is a public interest incorporated foundation that provides grants through public subscription in the fields of basic science, environment, arts and culture, and international exchange. Personal information acquired by the Foundation shall be used in accordance with these purposes. Based on the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan, the Foundation respects and complies with the laws and regulations applicable to personal information and the spirit thereof, and strives to handle personal information appropriately and securely and to protect personal information.

  1. Acquisition of Personal Information

    When acquiring personal information, the Foundation will clearly indicate the purpose of use and will handle information voluntarily provided by the individual concerned.

  2. Purpose of Use and Protection

    Personal information handled by the Foundation will be used only within the scope of the purpose for which it was obtained. In addition, except where required by laws and regulations or where necessary for the protection of a person's life, body, or property, the Foundation will not provide personal information to any third party.

  3. Management System

    1. (1) All personal information will be properly managed to prevent unauthorized access, theft, loss resulting from removal, destruction, alteration, or leakage, and the Foundation will take necessary preventive and corrective measures.
    2. (2) The Foundation will accept inquiries from individuals regarding the disclosure, correction, suspension of use, and other matters concerning the handling of their personal information, and will respond appropriately and promptly.
  4. Maintenance and Continuation of Efforts for Legal Compliance

    The Foundation will strive to conduct its operations in accordance with laws and regulations concerning the protection of personal information and other applicable rules.
