Grantee: Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, University of OregonTheUniversityofOregonartmuseumopeneditsdoorstothepublicin1933.Themuseumhousesmorethan13,000objectscoveringfromtheeasttothewest,primarilyitsoriginalcollectionrepresentedtheculturesofChinaandJapanandalsoincludedfromKorea.Theconservationobjectisasix-panelfoldingscreen”ViewsofHigashiyama”representsavibrantartworkcharacteristicfromMomoyamaperiodtoearlyEdoperiodinJapan,focusingonscenesofdailylifeandculturalactivitiesinKyoto.Beforethisrestoration,itsconditionwasdiscoveredtobeprecariousduetothepastinappropriateremedialtreatmentsuchasoverpainting.Onthesurface,althoughitmayappeartobeinrelativelystablecondition,butinternally,thescreenlacksproperphysicalsupport,sothisscreenisinextremelyfragileconditionandshouldbeminimallyhandled.Currently,thisscreenisunderwayconservationfor2years.Conservation of six-panel folding screen”Viewsof Higashiyama (Rakugaizu)”
