Grantee: National Museum in PoznanNationalMuseuminPoznanisoriginallyestablishedin1857,oneoftheimportantmuseumsinPoland.Thismuseumcontainsover400,000historicalobjectsfromaroundtheworld,includingthecollectionhandedoverfromthedistinguishedcollectorofEastAsianart,AdolfFisherwhoisalsoafounderofMuseumofEastAsianArt,Cologne.AlthoughmostpartofhiscollectionwasdamagedbytheWorldWarII,someculturalheritageincludingthisbyobuismiraculouslysurvived.Theconservationobjectisapairofsix-panelfoldingscreens“WildGeeseandReeds”.Itisunknownofitspainter,however,thescreen’sstylecorrespondstoearlyEdoperiodpaintingandthatbyobuisassumedtobedatedtothe17thor18thcentury.ThisbyobuwaspurchasedinJapanaround1905-1906byAdolfFisher,whoservedasculturalattacheattheGermanEmbassyinBeijing,andaddedtotheinventoryofthePoznanMuseumin1906.Currently,thebyobuisinpoorcondition.Allelementsformtheinternalstructure,calledshitaji,andtheconstructionelements,calledkarakami,heri,fuchi,tothemainimage,calledhonshi,areweakened.Thefoldingscreenwaspreviouslyflooded,itcausednumerouswaterstains.Thehingesarebroken,andunfortunatelyapartofthe5thpanelontheleftscreenhasbeenlostduringtheWorldWarII.So,basedontheirdigitalarchives,it’llberestoredfor3yearsinJapan.Conservation of“Wild Geese and Reeds” a pair of six-panel folding screens
